Research reveals best places in UK for mobile signal

Bath and York have been named as the two best UK hotspots for mobile coverage in research byt mobile resellers Affordable Mobiles.

Two of the UK's national parks rank amongst the lowest along with Guernsey, Salisbury and Whitby.

The research looked at overall coverage as well as coverage for indivdual devices, based on 4G and 5G signal scoring from two of the largest network providers.

Bath and York top the list, with good 5G coverage already in place, while Snowdonia and the Lake District were one of five locations with the worst rating. This might be a selling point, for many looking to spend less time on their smartphones.

3 out of the 6 blackspots the research highlighted were found in the Shetlands. Strangely, Rosedale Abbey in North Yorkshire and Alwinton in Northumberland were also pinpointed as blackspots even though coverage is available in most of the surrounding areas.

The research also found minimal differences between the latest iPhone 12 and the Samsung Galaxy S21/Google Pixel 5.

Jessica Canning, Mobile expert at Affordable Mobiles commented on the research, “It is really interesting to see first-hand the differences in the UK’s coverage from place to place. The study has unveiled some surprising results.

“Looking at the more rural staycation destinations, it is a pleasant surprise that most have good coverage levels and shows how the UK has improved its coverage levels across the board in the last few years.

“If we looked at the same data 10 years ago, it would be a major shock if Loch Lomond or the Isle of Skye had any coverage at all, whereas it is now clear to see the investment is paying off and soon there will be very few places in Britain where you won’t be able to get any signal.”

Affordable Mobiles has published the full results on its website
