AN adult-only, simple Certificated Site has been created just a 10 minute stroll from the Park and Ride that takes you into York, or a half-hour walk to the city centre.Chowdene Camping and Caravan Park is located on Malton Road (YO32 9TD for GPS users) and is owned by the Wardell family.
Dad, David, says: ”We’ve tried to create a small oasis of tranquillity, where campers can relax after a hefty day sightseeing in York. And, while the site is simple, there are loads of services nearby.”
Facilities are limited to one shower and toilet, electric hook-ups, chemical waste disposal, fresh water and grey water disposal.
We are told that there is a farm shop just 200m from the site, and a short walk will bring you to the Monks Cross Shopping Centre, which boasts an Asda, Boots, WH Smiths and a further 20 shops.
There is also a swimming pool, Go Carting track, indoor bowling and cinema all within a short drive.
Despite such facilities nearby, the site is surrounded by countryside, including a lake.
David told Camping magazine that they have recorded more than 50 species of bird visiting the site.
This story is published in the September 2010 issue of Camping magazine.
