Lake District campsite extends opening hours

One of the most popular campsites in the Lake District is extending its season.

The National Trust's Low Wray site on the shores of Windermere will remain open until after the new year to meet demand from campers.

The Trust, which has owned the campsite for almost 50 years, has traditionally put out the campfires and padlocked the gates at the end of the October half term.

But thanks to demand for more places to spend time in the Lakes, campsite manager Tom Hunt has chosen to stay open over Christmas, up until 4 January.

He said: "Our camping pods at our other sites at Wasdale and Great Langdale are pretty much full every weekend throughout the year so by staying open for business a bit longer, we can offer visitors coming to the Lakes an alternative.

"Though it’ll never be as busy as the summer season, we find lots of people enjoy a quieter time to either enjoy a favourite walk, or just spend time reflecting before the hectic rush of Christmas. Our splendid Berber tents, complete with woodburners are an enticing spot to spend a cosy evening."

* To get 25% off a stay at Low Wray mid-week quote WINT14 on arrivals up to 17 December when you book online at ntlakescampsites.org.uk. Call the booking office on 015394 32733.
