Japanese outdoor brand Snow Peak launches new premium tent in UK

A leading Japanese outdoor and camping brand celebrated its first anniversary in the UK with the launch of a new premium solo tent.

Snow Peak has a history that goes back more than 60 years and opened its first UK store in central London in October 2019.

The Regent Street shop stocks the company’s entire range of high-end outdoor gear and clothing – including the new Minute Dome Pro.Air 1 tent. It is one of more than a dozen high-spec tent models currently on offer from the Japanese brand.

As well as lightweight technical tents, Snow Peak’s range includes high quality, large family models such as the four-berth Elfield (£912), the Living Shell Long Pro (£1,978), which sleeps 4-6 people, and the six-berth Landlock (£1,818). The Spearhead (£1,808) offers more of a glamping option for larger groups while the Entry Pack TT (£570) has been created as a starter bundle for camping newcomers – a tent and tarp with enough space for two adults or a family with two children.

Materials used throughout the range are high quality, with the Elfield, Entry Pack and Spearhead tents all coated with Teflon to improve their waterproofing.

Snow Peak Minute Dome tentThe Minute Dome weighs in at under 4kg so is perfect for carrying on a bicycle or motorbike and features a small vestibule for storage, mesh panels on both sides and pockets on the front wall of the inner tent.

As well as tents, Snow Peak’s camping range includes a huge selection of accessories, from titanium mugs and lanterns to packable outdoor fireplaces.

If you can’t make it to London there is a list of stockists on the website and, of course, you can order online.

The family business was founded by Yukio Yamai in Japan in 1958 with the aim of encouraging people to experience life in the great outdoors and to reconnect with nature.

His son, Tohru Yamai, created a line of camping products in the 1980s which were designed to bring the indoors outdoors, and these items are still hugely popular throughout Japan today.

In 2014 Yukio's granddaughter, Lisa Yamai, launched the Snow Peak Apparel clothing line.

The Snow Peak Way is a camping event attended by employess and customers, that began in Japan in 1998 and now takes place at more than 13 campsites across Japan, the US, Taiwan, and Korea.

Plans for the first UK event in October 2020 had to be cancelled due to COVID-19 restrictions.
