Get Away From Gadgets

British families are choosing to go without gadgets for their camping getaways, according to recent research by Argos, one of the UK’s leading retailers for camping gear.

Even though technology is more compact and portable than it has ever been, one in five families claim their tent-camping trip is stress-free due to the lack of gadgets taken with them.

The research found that more than 50 per cent of us go camping at least once a year and traditional camping essentials are favoured over high-tech gadgets, with torches (38%) and camping stoves (35%) rated the top must-haves. And with the ‘staycation’ become more and more popular, fuelled by the economic climate, these figures are sure to rise.

The items that campers were most likely to leave at home are a TV (62%), a laptop (60%) and a games console (47%).

The female campers among us also admitted to taking a break from make-up, hair-dryers and hair-straighteners, with just three per cent sticking to their usual beauty regime.

Argos has over 450 products in its camping range from tents to portable toilets and solar showers to mini washing machines. It is a one-stop-shop for first-timers, families, experienced campers and festival goers, selling brands such as Regatta, Vango, Vacanzza by Outwell, Karrimor and Argos’ own brand, Pro-Action.
