Doctor Who star David Tennant to appear in new camping-based sitcom
David Tennant is to star in a new US version of a British sitcom based around the camping trip from hell.
The former Doctor Who star has signed up for a major role in the dark comedy written and produced by Lena Dunham and Jenni Konner.
Hollywood star Jennifer Garner will also appear in the eight-part show on cable channel HBO.
Camping was created by British comedy writer and actor Julia Davis – who wrote the award-winning Nighty Night and Hunderby.
She wrote, directed and starred in the tale of a couples’ camping trip that’s less about toasting marshmallows and more about simmering resentments, as a stuffy middle-class birthday break goes badly wrong.
Scottish actor Tennant, who also starred in Broadchurch as well as playing the 10th Doctor in the BBC series, will play “reliable husband” Walt.
The show centres around a camping trip organised by his controlling wife, played by Garner, to celebrate his 45th birthday.
Filming will start in Los Angeles in the spring, according to Hollywood Reporter.
The UK version, which was shown on Sky Atlantic in 2016, starred Vicki Pepperdine, Steve Pemberton of League of Gentlemen and Benidorm, Rufus Jones and Davis.
