Camping magazine celebrates its 60th birthday

Camping magazine, the UK’s only magazine devoted to life under canvas, is celebrating its 60th birthday in 2021.

And to mark the occasion, when you sign up to Camping magazine’s free email newsletter, as well as getting the latest news, exclusive features, special offers and the chance to win some fantastic competition prizes, we’ll also send you a link to download and read the first-ever issue of the magazine!

Issue One of the magazine was published in February 1961, when it was called Popular Camping.

The magazine has come a long way in the last 60 years and readers can now enjoy the best travel, sites and practical camping advice, as well as tent and gear tests, both in print and on a range of digital platforms.

The May issue of Camping is the magazine’s special celebratory 60th birthday issue. As well as the usual camping content, it will include a selection of the best covers from 1961-2021 and a round-up of camping through the decades.

It will also include flashbacks to previous articles on travel features and there are two big competitions from Outwell and Coleman with thousands of pounds worth of camping gear to be won.

Camping editor, Iain Duff, said: “Things have changed a lot since that first issue back in 1961. These days we’re more than simply a print magazine, reaching almost one million people across our paper, online, digital and social media platforms. Camping itself has changed massively in the last six decades, too.

“But what hasn’t changed is our knowledge and expertise and that’s why we are still such a trusted, independent voice for campers. And at a time when camping has never been more popular, that is so important.

“Just like it was 60 years ago, our mission is to help campers solve their problems, review and report on new equipment and inspire with accounts of holidays under canvas here and abroad.”

The May issue of Camping is available from 12 April in both digital and print formats. A fully searchable Camping digital library is available through Exact editions from just £3.49 a month, which includes all issues dating back to September 2016 plus all future issues. It can be downloaded by visiting campingmag.uk/exact.

For those looking for the ultimate digital Camping with all the extras including interactive web links for attractions, campsites and companies and live web feeds digital subscriptions are available for just £2.99 for the first issue, followed by £3.99 a month. Readers should head to campingmag.uk/pocketmags.

The May issue of Camping will also be on sale in all good newsagents from 12 April or it can be ordered from Camping magazine’s website outandaboutlive.co.uk.
