Camping bookings soar ahead of big weekend

Campers are expected to be out in force this Saturday to take part in a UK-wide camp out.

The Camping and Caravanning Club is reporting advance bookings for the night of its Big Pitch event are up 17 per cent compared to the same time last year.

And with good weather predicted this weekend, the Club is predicting bookings will rise even further.

The Big Pitch, part of the National Camping and Caravanning Week, is encouraging as many people as possible to go camping on 4 June - even if it's just in their back garden.

Club director general Robert Louden said he was delighted at the surge in bookings.

He said: "You can't put a price on feeling emotionally happy and it's encouraging to see so many holiday makers choosing a domestic break with the Club.

"The Big Pitch camp out is the perfect opportunity to get together with friends and family to enjoy a night under the stars."
