Barrons blasts Discover Leisure onto camping market

THE takeover of major camping retailer Barrons by Discover Leisure will see the company increase its product lines.

The move increases Discover Leisure’s outlets to 15 around England and Wales, and increases its annual turnover to £150 million.

The acquisition of Barrons provides Discover Leisure with one of the largest sales outlets of folding campers and trailer tents within the UK.

As well as being a dealership for brands such as Pennine and Conway Barrons also imports units like Comanche.
Discover Leisure entered the camping market in August 2005 when it acquired Harringtons caravans.

Although primarily involved in the sale of motorhomes and caravans, Discover Leisure is also interested in expanding its leisure products.

Retail Development Director Phil Haynes, says: “We have some exciting plans and see the camping product featuring very strongly. And this may well involve our own brand camping equipment. “

Former Towsure and Outdoor Revolution/Blue Diamond Products marketing man, Daniel Walton, joins Discover Leisure as Retail Product Manager to bring on the company’s camping lines.
