Top secret motorhome innovations revealed

Yorkshire-based IH Motorhomes is set to steal the show at next week’s NEC Motorhome and Caravan Show as it unveils a host of sensational innovations – including a caravan-style door on a van conversion and a hydraulic slide-out.
The most exciting of IH’s three new launches is the flagship N630 SL – the slide-out model. Based on an extra-long Fiat Ducato specially ordered with twin sliding doors – which are removed in the conversion. The nearside sliding door is replaced by IH’s unique new door, while the offside one is replaced by the slideout – the outside of which is a carbon copy of the Fiat panel, but fashioned from GRP.The slide-out extends 500mm from the side using a substantial hydraulic mechanism that can be over-ridden manually should the electrics fail. Weight-saving achieved in replacing heavy steel side and rear doors with new GRP panels means that the slideout does not eat significantly into payload.
IH founder Ian Hartley says of the new developments, “we’ve gained more space but it’s the fact that it doesn’t look like a panel van any more that matters most.” With buyers likely to be trading up from existing IH models or downsizing from A-classes, the move away from van doors is seen as key to IH’s position as the maker of Britain’s most upmarket campervans.
