Residential and Holiday Park profile: Berkeleyparks, Wales

In the heart of spectacular mid-Wales lies Builth Wells, a small, traditional market town that grew up as a major centre of agricultural trading; it has been a town of significance since Medieval times.

As a major centre of beef cattle trading, Builth Wells had an unstructured start, having no market place; cattle were traded in the streets, with no means of keeping one farmer’s animals separate from others. The town has come a long way; today, it’s home to the premier farming event of Wales, the Royal Welsh Show (The next show is scheduled for July, 2021).

Builth Wells is in the county of Powys, the largest county in Wales. Powys covers a quarter of the landmass of Wales, yet is the most sparsely populated county in England and Wales.

The name Builth is derived from Bu-Allt, or Buellt, which comes from the Welsh words for ‘wild ox’. And Wells? That refers to the discovery of a natural saline spring in the town in the 1700s.

Residential Park: Caerwnon Park

The fascinating history of Builth Wells adds to its charm; today it is rated as a very desirable place to live. That’s why a programme of development is taking place at a residential park home estate close to the town, owned by Berkeleyparks. Caerwnon Park is soon to get around 45 new bases; excitingly, customers will be able to design their own homes for these plots. Plus, at present, there are two homes for sale and available to view. One is made by Pathfinder. It’s a bespoke home created for this park. The Pathfinder Ferndale is a 50ft by 20ft home with two bedrooms, the main bedroom having an en suite. The price is £138,000. There is also a Country Homes Kingsbridge, at £145,000. This 45ft by 20ft home, like the Pathfinder home, has a garage and two bedrooms.

Caerwnon Park is three miles north of Builth Wells. The park is set in 24 acres and has views of the Wye Valley to the south. The Cambrian Mountains border the park to the north. It’s an idyllic location. Just 12 miles away is a region known as the Welsh Lake District, for its reservoirs, which were created in Victorian times.

Residential and Holiday Home Park: Llewelyn Holiday Park

Berkeleyparks owns 51 residential parks in 21 counties. While the company is best known for its residential parks, it also caters for holiday home ownership – and one of its holiday parks is close to Builth Wells.

Llewelyn Park, like Caerwnon Park, is wonderfully located for walking trails and for scenery. It’s at Climery, six miles south of the spa town of Llandrindod Wells.

Amid a landscape of lakes, forests and mountains, this is a place to both relax and be energetic. Take your pick: golf, boating, fishing and climbing, as well as walking, are on offer in this region.

This park is a mixed residential and holiday park; the holiday home section is shortly to be developed, with new bases being created.

At present there is one lodge available. Called The Glade, this 45ft by 20ft lodge represents a very special opportunity, sited on the perimeter of the park, with valley views. The price is £130,000. It has a spacious, galley-design kitchen, a large dining area and a lounge with an electric wood burner-effect fire set into a corner; perfect for cosy nights in! The Glade has a large main bedroom with an en suite shower room plus a twin bedroom, with a bathroom nearby. This holiday home has been designed to give ample storage space.

It’s possible to rent a holiday home at Llewelyn Park; there are just four available. This would be a superb opportunity to get to know the park and its environment if you are considering buying a lodge here.

In the area

Builth Wells sits at the confluence of the Wye and Irfon rivers. This was, for centuries, an important crossing point; that’s why the town was established here.

The Wye Valley is noted as one of the most beautiful valleys in Britain. The Wye is the fifth longest river in the UK, stretching 130 miles. It rises in the Plynlimon Hills, the highest point in the Cambrian mountains, and flows through the Welsh-English borderlands, to join the River Severn. The ancient towns of Hay-on-Wye (20 miles away) Hereford (40 miles away), Ross-on-Wye (50 miles away) and are great places for days out from Builth Wells.
