Got me cheapo Aldi special working but although we have 300+ channels..........only a half dozen are in English........some news....... and the God channel .......at least it means the gizmo box is working.

So I'm assuming I need a bigger dish here in Spain......What size do I need and any recommendations?

Oh got some porn channels........... their language is international ............Sue won't let me watch them though

This is a useful site satelliteforcaravans & will give the info you need.
If you are a long way south you will probably need a 1.2 metre dish.

Agree with Lenny, We use their system although with a 1metre dish to 100 milles south of barcelona. A larger dish is usually required the further south that you go especially for Astra 2. this gives BBC/ITV soaps etc. Astra 1 appears to be a sronger signal and may require a smaller dish..

Sitting in Benidorm with a dish sized 80/90 cm and getting nearly ALL of the UK programs but you need to get the freesat box that I mentioned last week as with a weaker signal out here the box has to be stronger

The box is a Ferguson and is on Amazon for about £75, it also takes the Sky card from your home system if you have one

Try swinging the Dish another 10°E and get Astra 28.5° its at about 37° elevation and 13° of skew.

Thanks for the input chaps..........I'm on Astra 1 so I assume swinging 10 degree East will find Astra 2

Read This

http://www.astra2d.com/astra2.html

All channels are temp being transmitted on astra 1N this will change later this year to a new sat with ( supposedly ) a tighter UK beam.

This year I was getting everything on a 85cm dish at Conil near Cadiz but next year ?

Are you saying that, because the box physically has a slot for a card, it behaves like a true Sky box - are you a subsriber and can you get Sky only channels like Sports or Movies on this box?
If you are not a subscriber, can you tell what advantage the slot might have?

We are Sky subscribers at home and this box accepts the Sky card and delivers the normal sky programs as a sky box would and of course the freesat channels.
Of course being so far down Spain some programs are not available but most are.
The box is half the size of the sky box and can be bought without the sky slot as a straightforward freesat box, we have both down here.

Thanks Syd but, presumably, no Sky+ facilities or twin channel recording??
We take our Sky+HD box with us in the van (takes 5 mins to move it from lounge) as we are invariably out most days and like to record stuff (sports/movies) for watching when we return to the van.
We also have Freeview (rarely, if ever, use it) and a spare Sky+ box at home - but my daughter and partner have 'pinched' this as they are 'staying with us' after the sale of their house. Hope they find somewhere soon, lol!!

Hi Syd
We are up the road in Calpe, think our box may have gone wrong, will try again to-night. What are the chances of us getting one here in Spain? Oh does like his sport on the Telly, while away

Hi
I went to a lad called Ken in Portugal who can do things to your satbox which allows the reception of all english channels right along the algarve and right up spain and France. Eliteview is the company you need to look for if you want your box adjusted. I might add that this is on a 65cm dish. However, if you dont have the benefit of being in Portugal then line up to 28.2 degrees. That was Astra 2 D but is now Astra 1N which is where all the Brit channels are transmitted. It is likely that the footprint will shrink but at present it is good and reception should be available on a minimal dish of say 60 to 80cm right through Spain and France. goodviewing

How far South in Spain will it work? as all I've read so far seems to indicate a 100 or 120cm dish is needed

Hi,

A 120cm dish was indeed required until 23 Feb 2012 when the astra 1n sat took over. After this time I picked up all channels on my 85cm telco dish as far south as cadiz in Spain. I also beleive it is the same in Portugal.

Later this year the 2F sat will launch and lsome channels will swap over and 2 further sats next year and tear after. These new sats will have a tighter UK spot beam so nobody knows what size dish we will need then.

These boxes are available in Spain but we bought ours through a local satalite engineer who lives in Finestrat on the outskirts of Benidorm

Stuart_sssystems@yahoo.co.uk 0034628029088 606139591 Seabright Satalite Systems
You may have to meet up with him though but he is very helpful, if you mention me it could help and maybe put the price up considerably .

He has just fixed up a Sky HD box to record etc here on our site so they do work out here you just need a twin cable LNB

Hi Syd
Our box now works, thanks.

Would not want seperate dish (Had one before), we have a sat dome, no hassle finding sats and not effected by the wind works Ok up to Spainish border, then can only get news channels and German ones, which suits us as we can see the F! . Our box is now old and can not be re-tuned, so will look when we get home for a new one. Was fine last year, but all this messing with satalites this year has stopped a lot of channels, Will have to learn GERMAN maybe!!
Weather still great here in Spain, waiting for improvements in France before turning back
