Waste water drainage

I have a Bessacar 435. The waste water levels on he control panel shows 'full' but I'm sure it isn't, in fact I think it's almost empty. I ran more water into it but only a trickle came from the outlet - I put unblocker - specially for RV's and caravans - down all sink shower plugs but still only a trickle. My MH is parked on a slope - nose up. The waste pipe from the tank looks difficult to remove. Any suggestions. Would it be the sensor ?

Most likely the sender unit. If it is the type with 4 metal rods clean the rods up thoroughly either via the inspection hatch out take it out to clean. These sender units sometimes fail, if you have the same type in the fresh water tank you could try connecting that one to the waste wiring.

Hi Gillian & welcome to the forum.

Also check the wiring connections on the side of the Tank. They are susceptible to road dirt & damp causing connection problems.

If the tank is difficult to access internally, you could try 3 x 2litre bottles of the cheapest Coke in the tank. Go for a run to swill it around helps if there is lime-scale or grease build up on the internal contacts.

You haven't said how old your Bessacarr motorhome is, but this piece on a 2006 model shows a waste-water tank capacity of 80 litres (about 17 gallons).

I'm not sure if you are just asking for advice about the control-panel waste-water gauge reading incorrectly (which is far from unusual) or also about the waste-water tank being reluctant to drain.

Logically, if you put 80 litres of water down the sink, you'd know that the tank must be full (and you'd undoubtedly have this confirmed by water coming up through the shower-tray's outlet and/or from the waste-water tank's overflow).

Once the tank was known to be full, if only a trickle of water emerged from the tank's waste pipe, you'd know there was a serious blockage somewhere in that pipe. I don't know what type of waste pipe your motorhome has but, if there's a blockage in it that cannot be removed by poking something (eg. a piece of wire) through the pipe, you'd need to remove the pipe from the tank.

The reading-full-but-tank-empty gauge problem could well be (as lennyhb advises) due to the sensors in the waste-tank being dirty, though there are other possibilities. There are various 'sensing' systems and the best approach for cleaning the tank's internal sensors depends on what type your motorhome has.

I had a problem with my Adria, waste tank was empty but the control panel was showing quarter full.

I put 3x 2lt of cheap diet cola in the tank and left it for a few days taking the motorhome for days out to give it a drive.

Gauge now shows empty, I have tried the tank cleaners, cost was about £9 (didn't work on the gauge) but the cola works better, cost about £1.

It's worth a try for a£1

Mark.

It is terrible to drink a dirty water. Health is very important. The area of Concord, Mass., passed a bottled water ban this past year, which outlawed sale of single-servings of bottled water. It's the first area in the United States to do so, though not the very first ban on bottled water per so, as the town wants to reduce Dasani bottles in dumps.

And that had bugger all to do with motorhomes, also I think the USA has a lot more problems to sort out than bottled water!!!
