Paris

Well, we went to Paris for Christmas and New Year.

Eventful to say the least. Dislocated right wrist, bruised left arm caught in Metro door and swiped across

the face by fellow camper (accidental)!

But for those of you thinking of going :

The camp site at Bois de Boulogne in Paris is brilliant. In the middle of being updated (Dec 2014)

but the reception is brand new and usually has 4 receptionists. Manage to speak most languages.

The loo/shower blocks were warm and fine but dated, the construction of new is work in progress.

The wifi was only available at the reception on three monitors. Did not work on the site.

The shop on site has a very comprehensive stock although expensive (as most site shops).

A shuttle bus runs every half hour from the site to the nearest Metro at Porte Maillot. 1 euro 60 each,

each way. Need to buy tickets in reception.

No help at Metro station and the trains are automatic, so no living soul to be seen.

Ticket machines, 1 euro 60 for a ticket that lasts one and a half hours as long as you don't exit a station. A book of 10 at 10 euros something is a very good offer. The other tickets that cover buses and underground are very expensive, I think 7 euros 60 but that would be hopping on and off transport all day. The cheaper option of buying a ticket for three days has to be used each consecutive day.

It is a ten minute walk over the Seine from the camp site to a little suburb called Suresnes where there is a small Carrefour supermarket and other small shops.

Although the lights were wonderful, would not recommend going when the French are on holiday.

There were horrendous queues for everything. Fortunately we ordered tickets on line before we went for the Eiffel Tower . New Year's Eve was a nothing evening. Got to the Champs Elysees at 11pm and there was no music, count down and the fireworks lasted less than two minutes.

Anybody got any questions - will answer if we can.

A wonderful city, we walked our legs off, the best way to see and appreciate Paris.
