These are the best caravan gifts this Christmas!

If the phrase “not long until Christmas” fills you with shopping dread, we’re here to help

Getting ready for the festive season is easier with our guide to gifts for caravan owners, including the best gear and apparel that we’ve reviewed this year and some products that easily make it onto our wish lists, courtesy of Caravan Editor, Louise Cottrill.

From high-performance e-bikes to winter-ready hiking boots, these are the caravan gifts that will help make Christmas in 2023 unforgettable!

Best reviewed gear in 2023: Ariat Skyline Solaris

Though not strictly equipment, for me having comfy feet whilst on a trip anywhere is so important as I love walking. When you are in the market for a walking boot, sometimes all you find are cumbersome, heavy and unattractive options. With this women’s boot from Ariat, you’ll experience the lightweight feel of them as soon as you try them on.

If you’re out on a caravan adventure you need comfortable footwear that won’t let you down. Boasting waterproof, durable, and ultra-lightweight features, these Skyline Solaris boots stood up to a wet and muddy day dog walking.

With a grippy tread there’s excellent stability on uneven and slippery terrain, while the contemporary look and feel also makes them ideal for a casual stroll into town when you need a warming coffee. They even have a removable cushioned insole for extra comfort. If you are looking for a walking boot that combines style and durability then these boots are available in two lovely colour options and sizes from 3 to 8.5.

Best reviewed apparel in 2023: Keela Smirr Poncho

Keela Smirr Poncho

Ponchos have a bit of a bad reputation – most people think about disposable plastic macs. However, this Smirr version from Keela is here to set the record straight.

It’s handy as it packs away quite small into a dedicated bag, so you can keep it in a backpack or bag and simply throw it on when the heavens open. It also takes up much less space in the caravan than a standard waterproof. It’s a tight fit in the bag, though.

The neck has press-stud type buttons to make donning it easier and it’s a really good length. If you are a keen cyclist there are also internal straps to secure to handlebars, meaning it’s less likely to blow up when pedalling. There’s also a belt loop at the back, but I challenge anyone to do this without looking idiotic.

The key issue we found is that there’s no elasticated hood; to stop this falling down in the wind, our reviewer had to hold with one hand, and ended up with a river of water down the arm.

It does, however, come in very bright shades with interesting names; we had Highland Coo/Loch Depths (orange and grey), but might have been tempted by the yellow and grey combo of Timorous Beastie and Par for the Gorse, or you can have blue (Wee Dook) or green (Where’s Nessie?).

According to Keela, the name comes from the word smur, which translates to fine/drizzly rain. The only thing we would have to add is that we’re not sure about the etymology of the Keela brand name – answers on a postcard…

On our wish list: Camper Firewok

Camper Firewok

Who doesn’t love being on a campsite on a warm summer's evening and making it last as long as possible? With this Firewok, you get a nice fire pit that you can also use as a barbecue. Hand-crafted in Bristol, this ultra-portable 16in camping firepit is the perfect addition to outdoor gatherings and get-togethers. Once your fire has reduced to embers, it becomes the perfect barbecue – just add the wooden-handled grille (sold separately for £120).

It might be simple in design but it’s a beautifully made stainless-steel, copper-riveted cone, with screw-on legs that make it easy to pack and away and store – and the specially made Firewok Bag (£26) makes it even easier to stash away in the caravan.

Firewok is also a company that’s passionate about sustainability (as am I), using local steel suppliers, 60% recycled stainless steel, renewable electricity during manufacture, plants trees to offset its carbon footprint and even delivers locally via bicycle whenever it can! To me, this is the perfect gift for enjoying long summer nights on a campsite with family and friends.

You can buy the full Camper Firewok Kit, including firepit, bag, grille and gloves for £260.

EnviroRides Ezi Stow

E-bikes have to be possibly one of the hottest topics for 2023. As well as choosing the bike itself, there’s all sorts of considerations regarding charging on board and maintenance, but they remain a hugely popular item.

We’ve picked the Ezi Stow model from EnviroRides. That’s because not everyone has a large under bed storage area capable of taking full-sized bikes, or maybe you don’t want a rack cluttering up the rear and extending the length.

The 13Ah lithium ion battery offers around 50 miles of pedal assistance, taking four to six hours to recharge. Other features include 20in tyres, integrated front and rear lights, pannier rack, hydraulic disc brakes, Shimano gear shifter and derailleur, and an easy-to-use display showing speed, battery, level of assistance, average speed and trip computer.

This model is a smidge over £1k at £1,099.99, and it comes with a two-year warranty and free delivery. Plus, you can spread the cost over three or four payments.

Light My Fire LunchKit

(Photo from Whitby & Co)

Whether you’re touring the open road or are in the office, lunch is one of the most exciting parts of the day – in fact, we’d go so far as saying that a good or bad lunch can make or break your day.

That’s why being prepared pays dividends and this six-piece LunchKit from Light My Fire is one of our favourite pieces of kit.

It’s built from 100% BPA-free plastic that’s both microwave and dishwasher safe, featuring tight-fitting snap-lock lids that are not only ideal for keeping food secure on the move but also double as your plates.

Available in multiple attractive colours and arriving with a spork, the LunchKit is a great gift for anyone who is regularly out and about!
