Barmouth is a little gem of a seaside town with a great harbour which is sheltered by cliffs and hills behind. It boasts miles of clean and glorious sandy beaches running north up to Harlech and most of its caravan and camping sites are several miles out of the town towards the village of Tal-y-Bont.
However, if you are looking for a site to stay on that is not only in Barmouth but also right on the beach, then look no further than Hendre Mynach Caravan and Camping Park. Situated just as you leave the town to the north, the site is on the left hand side.
Once on the flat site area you are in different world. The caravan and camping areas are neatly separated from one another and there is a small shop on site next to reception. The pitches are well laid out and are neat and tidy, and the site is screened by mature trees to shelter it from the sea breezes and separate it from the buildings of the town.
This site is very popular with families and bookings will need to be made well in advance especially during school holidays, but don’t let that put you off. Two modern amenity blocks have hairdryers, shaver points and one has a disabled room. There is a launderette, parent and baby room, shop and enclosed play area.
A drive into Barmouth takes moments, but more entertaining is a good stretch of the legs walking along the beach to the attractions and just a 20-minute level stroll takes you into town. The beach is easily accessed from the site and is situated at the quieter northern end of the town. The sand is clean and glorious and the sea nice to swim in.
Nearby you have the attractions of Barmouth and Fairbourne, which is a short water taxi ride over the harbour and has a miniature railway that is always popular. There is decent fishing off the beach and the harbour wall in the town itself and the kids will catch plenty of crabs and the odd small fish with a crab line that can be bought in numerous shops in the town (apparently bacon works quite well as bait!).
If you are looking for a real traditional family holiday with plenty to see and do nearby then this is the place for you.
