The Ring Road, Paignton, Torquay, Devon, South West. TQ3 1ST
Opening Times:
22 March - mid October
Prices:
From £23.00 (2 adults, pitch, electric)
One of the easiest campsites to find – thanks to being directly off the ring road between Torquay and Paignton – Widdicombe Farm offers over 200 touring pitches in four different grades. These include basic grass pitches, all-weather pitches with electric hook-up and Super Pitches which additionally include a mains water tap, drainage and chemical waste emptying point. Premium Pitches have all of these features but either have the best views or location and are bigger. All electric points are 10 amp.
The availability of these extra large hardstandings pitches, the wide entrance and the easy-to-negotiate tarmac campsite roads, make it a good choice for RVs. There’s no slotting your RV along narrow lanes here. For Devon, this is quite refreshing. The downside to the convenience of the campsite’s entrance is that there is a little road noise from the bypass at certain times.
Once you’re on the campsite, the reception area is to the right of the entrance and located in a rustic-looking wood-panel and stone-clad building. The reception area is well-stocked with tourist leaflets and also has a shop and ‘Poppies’ restaurant and takeaway. The shop sells groceries and gifts, while the licensed restaurant offers all manner of home-cooked food, ranging from cooked breakfasts to evening meals. Barbecues take place during peak weekends.
Opposite the reception area is the recently renamed 'Gordon's Bar', which offers a wide range of draught and bottled bitter, lager and cider. Various evening events take place here at Easter and from Spring Bank Holiday to the end of September, ranging from singers, to comedy acts, karaoke and bingo.
The actual touring fields are set over four different fields – Daisy, Clover, Bluebell and Apple Blossom. There are various toilet blocks with wetroom-style facilities, which are dotted about on site and offer disabled facilities. They’re of a decent standard too. The laundrette has the usual washing machines, dryers and ironing boards. Tourist Information and leaflets are available in the laundrette.
