Southerness Holiday Park is situated right on the coast overlooking the Solway Firth and the Lake District but is a world removed from the latter. The campsite is a mixture of static ’vans and camping fields. It has excellent toilets and the fields are flat. The campsite has great views to the highest hill, Criffel near Sweetheart Abbey. Dumfries is not far away and a local bus runs to it in the summer months. It also has a good swimming pool and a decent club where you can get a drink in the evening and the kids can play on the games tables.
The south west end of Scotland is under-exploited by the average British tourist who may very well pass it by en route to the Scottish Highlands. This is a shame as this area is home to some magnificent scenery and literally hundreds of miles of excellent and unspoilt walking trails. The hills here are often trackless and give you a great sense of exploration. The views are magnificent, too. The area is a joy to travel around and it is made all the more so by the fact that it doesn’t receive visitors in such great numbers as places such as the Lake District.

At Southerness the beach is right on the doorstep. It is a two-mile stretch and is a short stroll from the campsite. For touring guests there are a choice of pitches - standard, serviced (with electric) and 'star' (electric, water supply, drainage and hardstanding.) Facilities include a toilet and shower block, laundrette and dishwashing area. The campsite mini market stocks all the daily essentials and you can treat yourself in the giftshop. Caravan holiday homes and lodges are also available to hire.

In the way of entertainment and activities you are spoilt for choice. The indoor heated pool is a massive 25 metres and has a flume and toddlers' pool. The soft play area wil keep little ones occupied while the pool table, amusements and adventure play area will appeal to older children.

The Coast Bar and Kitchen serves family meals and Costa Coffee and has an outdoor terrace for al fresco dining or drinks. If you need a quick meal there's a takeaway available and evening entertainments is offered in the Sunset Showbar.

Nearby attractions include Galloway Wildlife Park, Mabie Farm Park and Sweetheart Abbey. There's lots to discover in Dumfries and Galloway, such as the coastal path from Southerness Point.
