Mannix Point is a special place... One holiday there can result in a lifetime of return visits. Set in the Gulf Stream coast of The Ring of Kerry, on The Wild Atlantic Way and at the gateway to The Skellig Ring which is recommended by Lonely Planet as one of the top ten places in the world to visit. Stargazers also please note that Mannix Point is in the Gold Tier Dark Sky Reserve, the only one in the northern hemisphere.

Situated at the edge of the water and facing across the bay to beautiful and historic islands it has spectacular views in every direction. It is located 300 metres off the main road at the western end of the pleasant town of Cahersiveen (Cahirciveen), just a 15-minute walk to shops, pubs, restaurants, galleries and entertainment including traditional music and dancing. There is a state of the art children’s playground at the eastern end of town, a supermarket very close to the campsite and a marina and heritage centre about 20 minutes walk away.

There are 42 pitches, most with 10amp electric hook-up. In the interest of child safety some of the camping areas are car-free but there are also pitches where you can park next to your tent. The washrooms are high quality and the laundry and facilities for dish-washing are newly equipped. There is no need to bring cooking equipment or crockery. All is supplied in the camper’s kitchen. There are indoor and outdoor dining facilities, the outdoor area on a veranda is fronted by a beautiful garden.

Mannix Point caters for touring motorhomes and caravans, family tents and small tents with or without electricity. It is advisable to book early for a waterside pitch.

Mannix Point is a mecca for musicians from near and far. Impromptu music sessions are a special feature of the park. On cooler evenings they play in the campers’ sitting room which is warmed by a turf fire. Music sessions take place on the veranda in good weather. Everyone is welcome to join in whether you are highly talented and experienced or just beginning.

A piano, three guitars, two mandolins, percussion and tin whistles are supplied but discerning musicians are advised to bring their own. At other times the sitting room becomes a reading room or a games room or just a place to chat with people from all over the world.

Dogs are welcome but as in all Irish campsites, in the interest of hygiene and safety they must be kept on leads on the park. They can be exercised on the stone strand adjoining the park.

The whole campsite benefits from the personal touch of the owner, Mortimer Moriarty who developed and opened the park in 1984. Every year there is a project to improve the campsite. He is a keen gardener and prides himself on very high standards. There is a noticeable friendly feeling throughout the park and the reviews are testament to the enjoyment of people across the world of being part of this convivial atmosphere. There were visitors from 46 different countries last year.

The location offers plenty of outdoor leisure activities, including watersports, archaeological sites, hill, mountain and foreshore walks, sub-tropical gardens, fishing, blue-flag beaches, horse riding, bird watching, and spectacular cycle and car tours, all in clean Atlantic air.

There are twelve beaches within 15 km. It is the nearest camping park to the departure port for boats to the Skelligs (a Unesco World Heritage Site). Ask Mortimer before you plan to go anywhere. He is a mine of local information and loves nothing better than to get the maps out to guide his guests.

Mannix Point has won 18 national and international awards including the Award of Excellence, Best Park in Ireland, Greatest Ambassador for the Sector and Best Welcome in Europe. TripAdvisor 5 star Certificate of Excellence 2017, 2016, 2015, 2014 and 2013.

Pre-booking is essential for The Cahirciveen Festival of Music and the Arts, held every year on the August Irish Bank Holiday weekend (when three nights minimum is require). The campsite offers free WiFi.
