Who is the Coleman Meadowood  6L for?

Ideal for first-time family campers looking for reliability at a very affordable price

What’s the Coleman Meadowood  6L like?

If you are one of the many people taking up camping for the first time this year, your number one priority is to make sure you have the right tent. It’s tempting to go one way or the other – either a really expensive model, with all the bells and whistles, or something cheap from the bargain basement.

You won’t be surprised to hear that neither is a good idea. In our opinion first-timers should be taking the middle road, with a reasonably-priced tent from one of the reliable manufacturers.

The Meadowood 6L from Coleman is an excellent starting point. This is a brand with 120 years of expertise behind it, so clearly knows what it is doing. The tent is great quality but comes in at a very reasonable £650 – and, in fact, if you search around you will almost certainly be able to land it at considerably less. Or maybe even with a carpet and footprint included.

The Meadowood has plenty of features – but it’s the award-winning BlackOut Bedrooms that are the real must-have, here. The special fabric blocks out 99% of sunlight, meaning your tent won’t be bathed in light at the break of dawn. The fabric also regulates temperature, keeping you cooler in summer and warmer in winter. Coleman’s XXL bedrooms are also designed to be more spacious than the average tent bedroom.

Poled tents like this are lighter and less bulky and, generally speaking, are much less expensive than an inflatable. So if you’re camping for the first time and you’re not sure if it’s something you’ll want to commit to for years to come, it might be better to spend a little less now, and then upgrade in a couple of years.

Keeping warm and dry is also important, and the fully-taped polyester flysheet and sewn-in groundsheet should be watertight. The Large back vent and low window vent in the living area will tackle condensation issues.

The open porch area is good for cooking but you can also buy a vestibule to create an enclosed space.
