One of the unique story walks
Seven new and unique story walks are adding splashes of colour to the greyest of Lake District days and bringing joy to children (and children at heart) visiting the Ullswater and Penrith area of Cumbria.
‘Tale Trails’ which have been devised by trained teacher and mountain leader, Anja Phoenix, bring the outdoors to life through walks that mean more than just getting the boots dusty or wellies muddy, thanks to exciting, creative and amusing narrative. Having launched the first three Tale Trails In May, Anja has now added a further four.
Each Tale Trail is filled with personality, heartstring-tugging moments and stories that interact with the landscape. They encourage participants to open their eyes and ears, discover, explore and appreciate nature, by interacting with features that they find en route.
The story walks are based on characters drawing their inspiration from the rich heritage, myths and legends of the Eden area of Cumbria. They also owe much to the imagination of their creator and the wonderful illustration and design, which supports both the story and the hand-drawn map that the story route follows.
The Tale Trails come in a variety of lengths and duration, from 1km to 10km, with lots of options in-between. Guiding yourself by following the map on the laminated story trail, means that everyone can go at their own pace, but guided walks, featuring Anja Phoenix as the story-teller, can also be booked.
