A local farmer has been given the go-ahead for Hainault campsite which is set to welcome 6,000 Olympic fans to its touring pitches.

David Fowler has been granted permission to set up an Olympic campsite at Forest Farm which is expected to house an estimated 6,000 spectators and host live music, dancing and indoor events from July 24 to September 9.

After seeing his initial plans rejected by Redbridge Council, it has now been granted that food can be served until 11.30pm and the sale of drink until 10.30pm.

Mr Fowler estimates that the site will bring in £2million for Redbridge businesses and said: 'Hopefully we can make this into a successful business. It's always nice when a decision goes your way, but it's just one more step. It's not finished yet by any means.'
