Murvi to launch conversions on new Transit

341247a4-3210-4cda-916b-0a714966a710

Devon-based Murvi Motorcaravans is to launch two models based on the all-new ‘2-tonne’ Ford Transit (big brother to the Transit Custom). These are likely to be amongst the very first van motorhomes built on the brand new base vehicle.

The Ford Murvi Pimento and the Ford Murvi Morello join a line-up of Fiat Ducato-based models and will retail from £46,950 and £48,502 respectively (on-the-road, including VAT).

Both models use the Ford Transit 35 (3,500kg GVW) with a 2.2-litre TDCi 98bhp engine and six-speed manual gearbox as standard.

The Pimento is based on a high-roof, medium-wheelbase (5.53m) van, the Morello (see photo above left of the Fiat version) is on a high-roof, long-wheelbase (5.98m) van. Both conversions come with features such as dual airbags, ABS, ESP, Hill Start Assist, lane keeping assist system, Enhanced Dynamic Cornering Control (EDCC) and ASR traction control, as standard.

Ford options include a 123bhp or 153bhp power increase (£500 and £1,250 respectively), rear-wheel drive (£800), all-wheel drive (£5,300 – on 123bhp model only), cruise control (£175), heated driver and passenger seats (£100), 95-litre fuel tank (£100 – 80-litre as standard) and a Thatcham Category 1 alarm system (£250); all options prices here exclude VAT.

Murvi options include leather front seats (£500), a 100W roof-mounted solar panel (£550), a choice of Thule bike racks (£310-£330) and Fiamma awnings (£500-£620), an Avtex 21.5in full HD TV/DVD with Freesat (£550), plus a choice of satellite systems ranging from £700-£1,800. Again all these figures are subject to VAT.

Both models have an L-shaped kitchen layout running along the side and rear of the ’van, with a sofa up front that converts into a double bed measuring 6ft 4in by 4ft 6in.

The washroom features a GRP washbasin with combined mixer tap and pull-out showerhead. A Dometic CTLP 3110 ceramic bowl cassette toilet with electric flush completes the facilities.

Owners of the new Murvi conversions can expect a robust vehicle. Ford subjected the new Transit to gruelling durability tests, including covering the equivalent of nearly seven million miles’ testing in Europe and North America.

One result of this is that the new van carries a 12-year anti-perforation warranty.

The first coachbuilt motorhomes based on the latest Transit are also expected to debut this summer, with Chausson one of the few companies confirming that it will use the new Ford in chassis-cab form.
