Iveco has a Vision for the future

The Iveco Vision in blue

One of the more interesting commercial vehicles to catch the eye at the CV Show, NEC Birmingham in April, was the Iveco concept vehicle, the Vision. As well as being pun-friendly, the Vision on display was a fully functional prototype concept, designed for what the next generation of Iveco Daily vehicles may look like. Iveco supplies base vehicles for motorhome conversion to companies such as Dethleffs, Cathargo and Laika. It was built by Iveco to test and develop new technologies and environmental solutions, and while you may not see this particular model on the roads, the design and components may well be incorporated into new vehicles.

Bob Lowden, Managing Director of Iveco UK, said, “This is our Vision of the future; a prototype for what the next generations of Daily may look like. Its creation is centred – above all – on environmental impact mobility and safety.”

Iveco Vision concept vanAt the heart of the Iveco Vision lies a dual energy system, combining diesel and electric. This has been developed by Iveco to further minimise environmental impact. The dual energy system gets its name from its ability to self-adapt to the most suitable traction mode – one is exclusively emissions and low noise levels for inner city areas, and the other is electric, ensuring zero local hybrid (thermoelectric) and suitable for longer journeys and extra-urban missions, reducing consumption and CO2 emissions by up to 25 per cent compared with diesel-only equivalents. The diesel engine is 2.3-litre. The Vision can  also automatically adjust its tyre pressures, according to the weight of the load it's carrying, to deliver optimum road-holding and fuel- efficiency.

Other unique features found on board include see-through front pillars which guarantee unrestricted driver visibility, plus a state-of-the-art rear-view camera displayed on a panoramic screen, above thewindscreen. There is also adaptive LED lighting, a photovoltaic roof which uses sunlight to generate battery power, and advanced GPS tracking. It comes with touch-screen controls and also a removable tablet to offer connectivity with internet, phones and vehicle data. The overall look is suitable space age with cool, blue LED lighting throughout.
