Bailey, the Bristol-based motorhome manufacturer, is to launch two all-new compact coachbuilts at the October motorhome show at Birmingham’s NEC.

The two new models, known as Approach Compact will join the all-new Autograph range and will both be under six metres in length (5.95m) and just over two metres in width (2.1m).

In fact the two new models will have similar dimensions in every respect to a typical medium-wheelbase campervan, but of course with all the benefits of a coachbuilt.

The two models will both sit on the new lightweight, low-profile Al-Ko chassis and will feature a ‘graphite’ (read black) Peugeot cab with 130bhp engine coupled to a six-speed manual gearbox.

Indeed, the two new models will share all of the cab specification and the majority of the habitation equipment levels that their longer Autograph siblings feature, including the Alde central heating system so often only found in high-end motorhomes.

There will be two layouts in this new compact low-profile coachbuilt range:
  • a two-berth model with a fixed rear transverse bed over a garage, which will be called the Approach Compact 520;
  • and a four-berth model with a front dinette, which makes into a double bed and transverse electric drop-down double bed above the dinette, which will be called the 540.

Both with have four fully-belted travel seats. Prices have not yet been set, but with the longer models in this all-new range costing between £44,460 and £47,450, expect the cost for these two new shorter models to be in the low £40,000s.

The news follows the launch of compact coachbuilts by Elddis last week and also launches of similar length coachbuilts by Hymer and Bürstner last year.
