Dangerous cylinders still on the market

Check your bottles for affected cylinders

Despite issuing a complete product recall, in September last year, on all 6kg Calor Lite cyclinders made between 2008 and 2011 inclusive, Calo Gas has revealed that only 55,000 cylinders has been returned. This means there are still over 100,000 cylinders in circulation that haven’t been returned. 

Paul Downes, Calor’s National Account Manager for the Leisure Sector said, “We have been pleased with the response to the product recall and would like to thank our customers and the Calor Network for their assistance. We have now checked over a third of the affected cylinders and got them back into the supply chain. However there are still over 100,000 cylinders which haven’t yet been returned so it is absolutely crucial that these are returned to us as soon as possible – especially with Easter and the Summer months just around the corner.”

All 6kg Calor Lite cylinders manufactured in 2008, 2009, 2010 or 2011 must be returned to a 6kg Calor Lite retail outlet immediately. Cylinders manufactured outside of this date range are unaffected and safe to use.

Customers can find their closest 6kg Calor Lite retail outlet by using the Find A Stockist facility. Upon return, the customer will be issued with a full free of charge replacement 6kg Calor Lite cylinder.

The date of manufacture is on the bottom of the gas canister so if you see one in a shop for sale, check the cylinder tare disc on the top. Any 6kg cylinder that has been recalled, tested and confirmed as safe for use will have a small, 5.5mm, hold punched into the tare disc. Any from 2008-2011 that does not have this marking should be avoided.
