This unusual park offers a warm Irish welcome

The Irish are renowned for the warmth of their welcome. If you want proof, just pay a visit to Clogher Valley Country Caravan Park in Co Tyrone.

This park is unusual by mainland Britain standards. Because of different planning regulations in Northern Ireland, it comprises plots, 190 in total, which can be used for any mix of static holiday caravans or residential park homes or touring caravans and motorhomes, tents too.

When I visited there were 49 holiday caravans sited and two park homes plus 33 pitches given over to camping and tourers. Half a dozen vacant plots with new concrete bases were ready and waiting to take new homes of either type with more being developed.

A short drive north of the border with the Republic of Ireland, this park is two miles from Clogher village with the nearest town being Omagh, 18 miles away.

Head westwards and you come to Enniskillen and Lough Erne – no shortage of opportunities for fishing, boating and other water sports here.

Clogher is very much a family affair. It was originally owned by Sydney and Olive Somerville, who still live in a Tingdene park home on site. Five years ago their son, Neil, and his wife, Sandra, who live in a house next door, took over.

The 12-month licence means that holiday-home owners can access their caravans all year round. Period of tenure for caravans is unlimited.

Caravans start in price at £8,500, park homes at £50,000. All homes have parking alongside and any new park-home purchaser could specify an on-plot garage if they wished. Site fees are £975 per annum for a holiday plot, £1,500 for residential (there is no minimum age for residents).
