Thameside parks cater for all ages and tastes

It is not often that a holiday caravan park is combined with a residential park home estate. But that is effectively the case with Thameside Court and Bablockhythe Caravan Park.

Situated right next door to each other in Oxfordshire on the banks of the river Thames, they are owned by Green Wood Parks. This is a family business based at Itchenor in West Sussex, with three generations involved in the business.

It numbers seven sites in total but only this one is residential, the others – in, Hampshire, Yorkshire and East and West Sussex as well as Oxfordshire – all being holiday centres.

The location of this unusual duo is in the quaintly-named hamlet of Bablock Hythe just 12 miles to the west of Oxford. This is where, arguably, the Thames is at its most scenically appealing.

Next door is the Ferryman Inn. Here too is the site of a ferry crossing said to date back to Roman times. Sadly, the ferry service itself has not been operational for ten years.

Some 64 park homes are sited at Thameside Court with 270 holiday caravans on Bablockhythe. The two parks together cover 12 acres and include more than a mile of water frontage. That provides 100 moorings for small craft, power and sail.

Social events on the two parks are organized by a residents association calling themselves the Babylonians.
