Essex holiday home park enters the 21st century

Being transformed from a caravan site into a state-of-the-art luxury leisure lodge estate is Elm Farm Country Park in Thorpe-le-Soken in Essex.

Elm Farm has a licence for 76 holiday homes. Sales are taken care of by the Dream Lodge Group (DLG), with which the park has set up a joint venture to handle marketing.

The owners of Elm Farm are Neil and Sarah Morris. Neil’s parents bought the park in the early 1980s and transformed it, laying new access roads and upgrading the services.

Now Neil is doing likewise, transforming this park into a 21st century leisure development. So the access roads are now block paved, with each lodge, of which 12 had been sited when I visited, having its own block-paved parking space.

All have natural gas, thanks to new mains. A new entrance (soon to be fitted with electrically-operated gates) gives direct access to the leisure lodges. That replaces the old entry point which led into the holiday caravan area.

In Phase One of development at this Country Park, 33 lodges, all twin units, will be grouped, usually in eights, each in an individual close.

In the meantime, Neil plans gradually to upgrade the holiday caravans on site to single-unit leisure lodges built to the higher BS3632 standard for greater comfort and durability.

Prices start at £100,000 for a 37ftx13 model, with pitch fees being £3,570 per annum. The park is open from March 1 to January 14 and lodges have a site licence lasting 50 years.
