Broadchurch boosts holiday-park bookings

Picturesque images of West Dorset shown on the award-winning TV drama Broadchurch have helped spark a business boom at one of the area's holiday parks.

At Highlands End Holiday Park in Bridport holiday home rentals are up nearly 58 per cent.

The park, which last year scooped the top gold award in the South West Tourism Excellence Awards, says the Broadchurch factor is definitely helping to fuel demand.

Centred around nearby West Bay and featuring David Tennant, the programme returned for a second series on ITV in January.

Visitors flocked to the area last year keen to see the filming location and many more now seem keen to take a holiday in the heart of the action.

Highlands End general manager James Cox said: "At the end of October the cast and crew of Broadchurch were filming the second series on Eype Beach next to the park.

"While the holidaymakers here were asked not to take pictures of any plot spoilers, they had a bird’s-eye view of the filming from the decking of their caravan holiday homes."

He added: “We have recently expanded our luxury holiday-lodge accommodation as the existing lodges, bungalows, holiday homes and apartments are all booking well on the back of ‘Broadchurch Fever’."
