TITANS TRANSPORT MOVE INTO PARK HOME MANUFACTURING

Ever tried getting a quart into a pint pot? That’s what transporting a mobile home from one side of the country to the other then siting it on a residential estate is like. It takes skill and ingenuity.

One company who specialize in solving such problems is Titans Siting & Transport. Well established in the transportation business, Titans have started making their own homes.

Only weeks ago they did the business with a 42x20, two-bedroom, open-plan model called the Turner. It just happened to be very first twin-unit park home Titans had ever made.

Pick-up point for the Turner was Titans’ new factory in Rushden, Northamptonshire, where it had just been completed. The destination: Duvall Mobile Home Park in Bicester, Oxfordshire, 51 miles away. In fact, Titans cover the whole of the British Isles with a fleet of specialist vehicles including three Scania low-loaders.

Each Scania can carry a load up to 32 tons in weight, 70ft in length and 16ft 4in in width. Costing around £140,000 each, these vehicles have remote-control, height-adjustable loading platforms and are powered by 12-cylinder turbodiesel engine. They do 8mpg laden and filling up costs almost £1,000.

Allocated to transporting the Turner were two of the Scanias plus a Land-Rover Defender as convoy escort. Its other job was to manoeuvre the Turner in tight corners once on site.

In order to allow the home to be transported by road, the Turner was, of course, constructed in two equal-size halves. Hence the two low-loaders.  A two-hour journey saw this park home delivered to its site. Then followed the positioning and siting, which took several more hours.

By the time Titans’ A-team had finished, the home was sited, secure, stable and weatherproof. All that was left was for someone to sort out the garden.

Looking at the finished item, you would never guess that only a matter of hours earlier it had been in two parts 50 miles away. More information is available from www.titansgroups.co.uk
