How to obtain a grant to improve your park home

1cb3b979-ba39-4d67-bf62-6bbf7489b685

Owners with disabilities can obtain grants for improvements to their park homes which may well transform their lives.

Adaptions can include building ramps and widening doors, adapting kitchens for wheelchair users, converting bathrooms into shower rooms, adapting toilet facilities, improving access to toileting and bathing facilities and upgrading access to food-preparation facilities

Key is that any adaptation must be ‘reasonable and practical’ and ‘necessary and appropriate’ as well as being ‘supported by justification from an occupational therapist’.

Who can apply? Potential applicants include people who own their own park homes; those with a disabled adult or child living with them and tenants with a secure tenancy.

In all cases, the application must relate to someone who is registered as disabled or able to be registered. Remember that grants are means tested so eligibility is based upon an applicant’s income, savings and any benefits they receive.

For any work that is approved for a grant make sure to choose a contractor who is experienced at working on park homes so that they know what they are doing.

Remember that local authorities across the country administer grants differently so the procedure for obtaining a grant may vary from place to place.

For more information contact your local county council or district or borough council as appropriate and ask to be put through to the social care office.
