Britannia launches new residential site with eco homes

Britannia Parks, one of the UK’s largest residential park operators, has launched a new park development at Radwell in Bedfordshire. And the homes on the site, to be called Radwell Retreat, will be nine specially designed eco homes that could enable buyers not only to save money, but earn money from the government.

The homes, which will range in size from 36ft-48ft long x 22ft wide, meet Building Regulations standards, surpass the code 4 sustainable housing specification and be NHBC certified. They will sit much closer to the ground than traditional park homes and will be built using either a steel frame or a wooden frame, similar to modern house-building techniques. With this stronger frame the units will be more rigid and feel more robust and solid and will have an estimated lifespan of more than 100 years.

Britannia believes the running costs of the units will be very, very low, as they will have higher insulation values than ever seen before in park homes. An optional package of photovoltaic (PV) panels is available that enables home owners to claim payments from the government via the ‘feed-in tariff’, as they will be supplying power to the National Grid.

At Radwell Retreat, each home will have its own private parking, with the possibility of a garage. The park itself, which has superb views over the Bedfordshire countryside, will have electric gates at the entrance.

The first ‘Better Built Park Home’, as Britannia describes it, will be delivered to the group’s Braintree Park in Essex this summer. The first home at Radwell will be sited in the autumn.

Prices at Radwell Retreat will start at £225,000, and the company is currently accepting reservations on plots on a ‘first come first served’ basis. The pitch fee will be around £150 per month and there is a 45+ age restriction.
