New Caravans from Swift

7e2b950d-7a4c-4a64-ab21-583d025537fa

Swift's review is exhaustive both in number and, says Chief Designer, Chris Milburn, in innovation.

“We’ve redesigned these caravans entirely from the chassis up," he explained in an interview with Go Caravan. “There are new layouts and new technologies, and the testing we’ve done has been extensive.”

Swift has also put its caravans on a crash diet, trimming between 35kg and 170kg from caravans across the range. This has benefits in terms of improved fuel consumption, while also matching the car manufacturers’ efforts to make their cars lighter.

The Swift Charisma and Sterling Europa ranges have been dropped and replaced with the Swift Challenger Sport and Sterling Eccles Sport ranges, each comprising eight models. Both new ranges feature Swift’s signature aerodynamic exterior styling and completely restyled interiors.

Sterling Eccles Sport 382

The compact Sterling Eccles Sport 382 is an excellent example of Swift’s new thinking.

The most obvious innovation is Swift’s optional curved front sunroof, which gives the caravans a very contemporary external look and floods the interior with even more light, though they do not open.

Al-Ko’s ATC stability system also comes as standard on the 382 and across the ranges, along with low-energy LED lights and four 230v plug sockets.

The front lounge is spacious and comfy with parallel seating, plenty of storage space and an extending table top. At the rear is a neat kitchen that wouldn’t look out of place in a bijou London apartment. Twin-oven, microwave and three-gas-plus-one-electric-hotplate hob are standard.

The washroom is neat and functional, featuring graphite grey basin, shower and loo. A bi-folding shower door keeps the toilet from getting wet.

As with the rest of the range, the gas-locker door is now bigger to aid access and the entire front has been reshaped to maximize headroom.

The redesigned roof is fully-bonded for added strength and flatness, and there are semi-recessed awning rails on both sides.

Swift recognises that the devil is in the detail, adding numerous ingenious ‘luxury’ touches including: solar-panel connections, scratch-resistant lino, dual-fuel Truma water heaters for super fast heat-up, blown-air heating, TV station and satellite dish mounting point.

With the day-to-day taken care of, Swift has focused on the long-term performance of their caravans with improved construction techniques and top-grade materials. These include marine-grade aluminium walls, specially-treated redwood framing, shock absorbers for improved ride and Hankook tyres for added stability and better braking.
