Wells Holiday Park campsite review

I spend quite a lot of time on holiday in Somerset, as it is home to two of my favourite places in the UK – the stunning show caves at Wookey Hole and the beautiful Cheddar Gorge. To find a campsite close to both of these places is a real bonus, and to discover that it is of superb quality makes it even better.Wells Holiday Park is situated within walking distance of the historic city of Wells. This adult-only oasis offers all-weather pitches with electric and views out to the Somerset countryside. The on-site facilities include an underfloor-heated shower block with washrooms, shaving points and hairdryer sockets, along with a radar key-operated wetroom. There’s a laundry with coin-operated machines and washing-up facilities located outside. Reception has a small shop selling essentials, open daily from April to October.
Exploring the local area is easy thanks to the bus stop at the site entrance, with hourly services between Wells and Weston-super-Mare (except Sundays and Bank Holidays). Additional adult-enticing extras include a petanque court, a beauty room offering a range of pamper treatments (appointments required), and WiFi throughout the site (so you can book your discounted Wookey Hole tickets in advance).
As a fan of subterranean adventure I would strongly recommend a trip to the show caves at Wookey Hole. You’re led through the underground chasms by an informative guide, and the whole experience is somewhat magical thanks to the use of coloured lighting, raised walkways above the many watery pools and narrow tunnels. There’s also lots of family fun here (think life-sized dinosaur models, an old penny arcade, adventure golf, etc), but I usually bypass all this as I feel the caves alone are worth the entry fee.
