The top campsites in Cornwall

The south west is one of the most popular destinations for caravanners. With hundreds of campsites to choose from it can seem like a daunting task picking the right one for your holiday. We've taken away some of the hard work for you by selecting a handful of our favourite Cornish sites.
Trevalgan Touring Park, St Ives

Surrounded by open farmland, Trevalgan is nestled between gorse, bracken and heather-covered granite hills. The campsite is in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty yet only two miles from St Ives town centre. There are many walks from the park into St Ives or Zennor via footpaths, which join up to the South West Coast Path. The touring park itself has free showers, a family shower room and games room. There is also an on-site shop with a selection of groceries and basic goods. While in St Ives enjoying the fishermen’s cottages and colourful boats of this pretty harbour town, why not head to the Tate St Ives gallery to check out some modern art? Alternatively you could take the short 20-minute drive to Cornwall’s south coast to see the medieval church and castle of St Michael’s Mount.
Killiwerris Touring Park, Chacewater

Touring Cornwall can be more of a delight out of season when children are back at school and the tourist hordes have gone home. For such a holiday there’s Killiwerris, located five miles from Truro and four miles from St Agnes. The park is exclusively for adults, with just 20 pitches, including some fully-serviced hardstandings. Chacewater village is less than a mile away with services including a shop, pubs and bakery. For off-site excursions there are a network of footpaths and the city of Truro with its cathedral, theatre, cafés and shops is easily accessible with a park and ride service. There is also a coarse fishing lake near to the campsite and several golf courses are within easy reach.
Polruan Holidays, Fowey

With no clubhouse or evening entertainment on site, just rolling Cornish countryside and panoramic sea views, you are guaranteed a peaceful break at Polruan Holidays. The site is situated at the top of Polruan village, a few metres from the coast path and a mile or so from Great Lantic beach. Within the village are two pubs serving food, a grocery store, a bakers and a café. From the quay, a passenger ferry can take you to the harbour town of Fowey where you’ll find plenty of shops and restaurants. The touring area is divided into three, with hedgerows for division and views across National Trust land to the headland and sea. Pitches have electric hook-up and there is also a children’s play area. The on-site shop sells a selection of the basic essentials plus frozen foods and local maps.
Cosawes

A sheltered valley location, within 100 acres of natural landscaping and in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty – this certainly says rural to us. This is what is offered at Cosawes Park and yet the touring park is still close enough to the sea and the towns for when you want to explore. Children and pets are welcome, but this is mainly an adult-orientated site and, as such, you’ll find no pools or clubhouses here. What you will find are 25 premium all-service pitches, and a top-notch toilet and shower block. There’s also full WiFi. Truro is just under seven miles away and offers a mix of restaurants, cafés and shops along with historical attractions such as the grand cathedral.
Wayfarers Caravan Park, Penzance

Promising an experience of traditional Cornwall at its very best, Wayfarers is brilliantly located near Penzance, close to spectacular scenery and engaging local attractions. It’s just two miles to Mounts Bay, where the enigmatic St Michael’s Mount rises from the sea to grace a million postcards. The island can be reached by causeway at low tide, or via ferry. At the edge of the bay, the picturesque port village of Marazion is something of an artists’ retreat and has enough galleries, shops and cafés to keep the visitor occupied. Wayfarers is licensed for 60 touring pitches, but uses only 32 of these in order to maintain a low-density, low-pressure ambience. For the same reasons, the site is adults only and has no clubhouse or bar, and provides a relaxing and peaceful spot for a break - a distinct contrast to some of the noisier holiday parks.

The clue’s in the name, but in case you can’t guess it, Heligan Woods is next to the famous Lost Gardens of Heligan which can be accessed straight from the campsite through an adjoining gate. These wonderful botanic gardens feature a series of lakes, sculptures and different floral areas, and are a great attraction for young and old alike to explore. The campsite is also only two miles from the coast. There is a selection of grass and hardstanding touring pitches and the five-star facilities at Heligan Woods include a play area, heated bathrooms, showers and toilets, along with a well-stocked shop which is open to guests throughout the season. The restaurant at the Lost Gardens of Heligan can be accessed without the need to pay for entry to the gardens, which is perfect for campsite guests looking for a convenient place to eat out.
Franchis Holiday Park, Mullion

Franchis Holiday Park is situated on the Lizard Peninsula just outside Mullion, between farm and woodland. A few minutes’ drive will have you at Mullion and it’s only five miles to Helston. The campsite has four acres of spacious fields for touring and a shop selling a variety of local produce. There are two toilet blocks, a laundrette and a choice of hardstanding or grass pitches. The Lizard Peninsula is a place of breathtaking scenery, with unspoilt, tiny fishing villages huddled into coves. There are sandy beaches aplenty with many of them remaining uncrowded and as yet undiscovered by the tourist hordes. Much of the area is owned by the National Trust and you can walk to your heart’s content taking in the unforgettable views.
Beacon Cottage Farm Touring Park, St Agnes

At Beacon Cottage Farm you are only 10 minutes’ walk from Chapel Porth beach, which is a sandy cove with caves to explore and rock pools to paddle in. The picturesque village of St Agnes, with its choice of shops and restaurants, is a short one-and-a-half-mile drive away or you can take a scenic footpath that runs through fields by St Agnes Beacon. There is access to many coastal walks from site and you can also see the remains of Wheal Coates tin mine. Set on a working family farm, Beacon Cottage has 70 pitches set out in six small, landscaped paddocks with sea and coastal views. Other pitches are surrounded by trees for those who prefer some shelter.
