New caravans for 2015 from Lunar and Venus

Lunar Caravans go into the 2015 season with two new models, a lot of styling changes, and a complete redesign of the Venus brand.

Venus, launched by Lunar as a separate, ultra-lightweight brand four years ago, will be a five-model range, with two family layouts, for 2015.

The new Venus caravans will be wider than previous models, going up in width from 2.12m to 2.15m.

In the Lunar Quasar range, a new model will be launched in September. The six-berth 586, with bunk beds and an offside dining area, will make its debut at the Lawns caravan show at Cottingham, East Yorkshire, on 6 and 7 September.

A new Lexon 590 arrives for 2015, with twin beds placed at the rear of the caravan and the shower room amidships on the offside.

Venus

The complete Venus line-up is new. Lunar tells us the new models are all based on the best-selling Quasar layouts. Venus, though, has an identity all of its own.

The slightly wider body means there is more space.

The 460/2 model is a two-berth with a rear shower room. The price will be £12,999.

The 540/4 has a fixed bed and end shower room; the price will be £14,399.

The 550/4 has twin beds; the shower room is across the rear. The price will be £14,599.

These three models are now launched. A further two models, both six-berths, will arrive later this year. The 580/6 (£14,999) will have fixed bunk beds and an offside dining area that can be converted to two more bunks. The 620/6 (£15,999) will be launched at the NEC Motorhome and Caravan Show, 14-19 October. This layout will have a fixed double bed, a side dining table that converts into bunks, and a side shower room.

All Venus models have Thetford Duplex combined oven-grill units and Thetford triangular three-burner hobs.

Styling is completely new, with matt cream locker doors and slim chrome handles. The woodwork is darker than the light oak previously used in Venus models; it’s a walnut shade. Washbasins sit up on the cabinets, rather than being integrated into the cabinet structure. Towel-drying rails are across the showers at roof level. The heating system is the Truma Combi 2.

There is a general air of plush styling about the new Venus range. The fixed-bed 540/4, for example, has an upholstered pelmet above the bedroom window. Venus may have started its existence as a purely budget range but it has now grown up, with a much more luxury look.

Fabrics are plain grey with a slightly retro design in curtains and cushions. And there’s a thoughtful design touch in some of the wardrobes, including the 460/2: a removable section of the first shelf beneath the hanging space enables you to hang long garments.

Weights have yet to be announced.

Lunar Quasar

Changes for 2015 are largely cosmetic, the range having been redesigned last year.
Surfaces are matt dark brown stone-effect. A new “Montana” oak finish is on cabinetry. Fabrics are new. Seat bases are plain fawn. Backrests have a modern flower outline design in pale cream on a background of fawns and greys. Curtain ties and cushions are in dark purple.

The 586 six-berth Quasar to be launched at the Lawns show will bring the number of layouts in this range to seven; the 534, with a fixed bed and offside corner shower-toilet room, has been discontinued for 2015.

The diminutive Ariva, a two-berth, end-kitchen model that is narrower (2.05m) than the Quasars yet shares Quasar specification and furnishings, continues into 2015.

Quasars rise in price for 2015. The Ariva goes up from £14,395 to £14,799.

The Quasar 462, Lunar’s best-selling model during the 2014 model year, goes up by £504 to £15,395. Other Quasas rise by between £471 and 504.

Lunar Lexon

Satin-finish locker handles and gloss cream locker doors characterise Lexons for 2015.
This range gets an enhanced Truma blown-air heating system that now includes isotherm ducting. Air ducts of a smaller diameter (35mm) than the main air ducts are fitted behind the condensation walls at the rear of the seat backs and fixed-bed areas. Small holes in the isotherm ducting enable warm air to rise; Truma calls it a “curtain of warm air”. This delivers a more even circulation of warmed air around the caravan. The heating system in Lexons is the Truma Combi 6kw version.

Prices of Lexons have gone down, by between £296 and £398. The twin-axle Lexon 640 goes down by £398 to £21,499. The two-berth 470 goes down in price by £296, to £17,699. The fixed-bed 540 also goes down by £296, to £29,499.

The Stellar, the unique-layout two-berth in the Lexon range, goes down in price by £96, to £16,499. The Stellar has the same equipment and styling as the Lexon models. It’s an end-kitchen layout like no other tourer, with a large L-shaped surface, two big cabinets and a large shower room containing a separate shower. The wardrobe is above the fridge, on the offside; a dresser is opposite. This ingeniously spacious layout, in only 4.17m of body length, now has the 2015 Lexon purple-and-fawn fabric styling, with dark brown rock-like surfaces and cream gloss finish on the five kitchen top cabinets plus the cabinet above the microwave in the dresser. In this model, the cream gloss style element is more prominent than in most Lexons, because there are a lot of top lockers.

Lunar Clubman and Delta

The Clubman and twin-axle Delta layout line-up goes into 2015 unchanged, yet with a new look. The principal style features of the Clubman Saros Edition, made during 2014 to celebrate Lunar’s 40th year of manufacture, are in the 2015 Clubmans.

These are the long, slim opening skylight surrounded by a white oval frame into which LED lights are set, and steeply-curved bed heads in fixed-bed models, and cream high-gloss locker doors.

New fabrics are introduced. And the plain cream scheme with rich purple leaf designs on cushions and curtains that was used in the Saros is now an option in Clubmans.

New features for 2015 are dimmable lighting above the top lockers, and Bluetooth function on the CD player.

On the transverse bed Clubman SI and Delta TI models, a new bed mechanism is introduced, to enable the bed to be elongated for night-time, and then shortened for daytime to increase corridor space. The mattress section at the pillow end is hinged, so it drops down when you extend the bed length.

Lunar has redesigned furniture in Clubmans and Deltas to create better airflow for heat generated from the Alde system.
Prices of all Clubman and Delta models rise by £604, making the two-berth Clubman CK £20,799 and the Delta models £25,499.
