Set in a pleasant location to the south-east of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park, this campsite has pitches with great views over farmland, forest and moorland. Its location means the campsite is surrounded by great walking countryside and for many this is the main appeal. It's set 2.5 miles away from the attractive and colourful market town of Helmsley. Here you'll find plenty of pubs - many serving food - together with lots of cafes and restaurants. It has a well-equipped licensed shop, a laundrette, play areas for children and cycle hire. A nearby sports centre has an indoor pool.

The campsite is laid out on three different levels and, as well as regular pitches, there are also deluxe pitches available that feature their own fenced-in plot. These are serviced by two luxurious heated toilet blocks housed in attractive stone-buildings.

One of these toilet blocks has been extended and refurbished with heating (with underfloor heating in the shower areas) and there's also a family washroom and full disabled facilities. Baby changing units are offered and as well as hand basins set in vanity units, there are also some privacy cubicles offered. Both toilet blocks are open 24 hours a day and include shaver points, hand-dryers and hairdryers. It's little wonder, then, that these facilities have been a regional winner in the Loo of the Year awards.

The reception and shop has been extended and offers home-baked bread and cakes, as well as cooked meats and frozen goods. It's also licensed and sells milk, newspapers, touring accessories, books and even souvenirs. Motorhome owners will be pleased to note that fresh and waste water points, as well as chemical disposal points are provided. Washing-up sinks are also offered.

The campsite recreation facilities are equally comprehensive and include play areas, crazy golf, cycle hire and an indoor play area.

Near to the campsite you can enjoy golf, tennis, squash, badminton, riding and pony trekking, swimming, gliding, fishing, country walking and mountain biking (there are various cycle routes). Suffice it to say, you won't be bored here!

The region itself is probably most famous for its association with James Herriot - the pen-name of veterinarian James Alfred Wright - and the famous author worked in nearby Thirsk. He once described the panorama from nearby Sutton Bank as 'England's finest view.'

Clearly the wonderful scenery inspires many local authors and in the nearby village of Ampleforth lives Peter Walker (Nicholas Rhea) who penned the Heartbeat books.

Other nearby attractions include several National Trust and English Heritage properties to visit, such as Castle Howard house and Newby Hall. For family fun it's worth noting that Flamingo Land is just a 30-minute drive from the campsite. It's also worth noting that the North Yorkshire Moors Railway is nearby and allows you to step back in time to the glorious age of steam.

The historical town of York is also around a 30-minute drive - and famed for its cathedral, city walls and the Shambles shops - while the North Yorkshire coast is just an hour away.
