I had a fair few preconceptions about the Vango Airbeam Eternity 600 before I got my hands on it. When you’ve only known tent poles, how could you possibly trust anything that’s only held up by air? But, I’m happy, to say the tent blew each and every preconception out of the water at every step, beginning with the carry case.

Packing the tent in a roller bag is a great idea. It makes what is essentially a heavy tent eminently portable.

Setting up the tent was not only quick and easy, taking under ten minutes in total, it also came with the satisfaction of seeing something rise from nothing thanks to a few hard pushes on the supplied hand pump. The beams inflate into solid supports that are well protected from punctures, just in case you’re worried about waking up in the night to find a deflated tent on your face.

Once up and pegged down, the Eternity 600 truly is a well-thought out tent. The living area is huge and there are handy little storage pockets everywhere, including a hanging organiser. There are three bedrooms big enough to sleep two people each. There’s also a removable panel between two of the rooms, which, once taken down, meant we were able to fit a double airbed into the enlarged bedroom. One downside would be the lack of a porch – where do you cook if it’s raining? It’s only a minor quibble about what is otherwise a terrific tent.

When it came to packing the tent down, it was just a matter of deflating the airbeams, something that took minutes. It all then rolled up easily and fitted snugly back into its roller case.

VERDICT

A good quality, compact weekend tent but quite tricky to pitch, which counts against it as a festival tent.

just thought peeps should be aware of a few issues with 2012 airbeams, thought vango would have these all ironed out for this year after last years reviews. thread in qustion is linked bellow. shame i originally liked the concept
