Camping on offer at hot air balloon festival

Camping will be available at the Bristol International Balloon Fiesta for the first time in the event's history.

An official campsite will be set up within walking distance of the main arena during the event, which takes place from 8 to 11 August on Ashton Court estate.

The fiesta, attended by 500,000 visitors, will see four days of hot-air balloon displays. More than 150 balloons of all shapes and sizes will take off from the estate at dawn every day and light up the skies at night. Family entertainment includes fairground rides, food stalls and bars, face painting and an acoustic music stage.

Now for the first time in the event’s 35 year history, organisers are offering the chance to camp next to the fiesta arena. The campsite is being run in conjunction with Camping Ninja, who organised temporary camping during last year’s Olympics.

Katie Astbury, oft Camping Ninja said: “We are working with the organisers of the Bristol International Balloon Fiesta to give visitors a base nearby the event where they can enjoy the whole weekend. Once they have established their base, they can enjoy everything the four day fiesta has to offer from the spectacular night glows to the mass ascents with up to 150 hot air balloons rising majestically into the skies over Bristol.”

Chairman of the Bristol International Balloon Fiesta Committee Chris Hathaway added: “The fiesta is one of the UK’s best loved events with thousands turning out at 6am to see the balloons take flight from the estate. This idea gives a cost effective option for our visitors travelling to the event from miles around to stay nearby and stroll onto the event site for our balloon launches and glows or just pop their head out of the tent to see them take off nearby, providing the wind is in the right direction”

The campsite opens on Thursday 8 August at noon and closes on Monday 12 August at 10am. Bookings can made with Campaign Ninja
