A Lincolnshire campsite has scooped top prize in a contest run by the Camping and Caravanning Club.

Acorn Wood campsite in Burton-upon-Stather has been announced as the winner of the Club’s Best Certificated Site (CS) 2014.

Facilities on-site include a fishing lake stocked with carp, tench, roach, perch and bream. The Lincolnshire Wolds Area of Outstanding National Beauty and Peak District National Park are both close by.

Site owners, Heather and Martin Thompson opened Acorn Wood CS in 2008. Heather said: “Martin and I are absolutely over the moon to have been given this award. It’s a huge recognition for all our efforts over the years, and we cannot thank everyone enough for all their support.”

In addition to landing the Best CS award, Acorn Wood won the Best Facilities award 2014, with members praising the spotless facilities and peaceful setting.

A Certificated Site is a small, privately run campsite that can accommodate up to five caravans or motorhomes, as well as. They’re exclusive to Camping and Caravanning Club members. The Club operates a network of more than 1600 CSs in the UK.

Darren Whittington, the Club’s Membership Services Director, said: “Winning Best CS and being nominated for two other categories is testament to Acorn Wood’s popularity and appeal among Club members.

“Offering a beautiful fishing lake on site, a nature reserve nearby and all within an hour’s drive of both Leeds and Hull, Acorn Wood is a great example of the diverse and unique nature of our Certificated Sites network.”

Three further Certificated Sites also won awards after receiving a nomination from members in other categories. Cefn Cae Campsite won the Best New CS award; The Paddock won the Best Hideaway and Best Friendly Welcome awards, and White Mark Farm won the Best CS for Families award.
