SET amongst mature oak trees and chestnut trees on the outskirts of Delamere Forest, Northwood Caravan Park offers 30 pitches, all of which are on hardstandings with electric hook-ups. Unusually most of these pitches have a grassed area for the caravan, with the hardstanding area being designed for awnings. On-site is a shower and toilet block, with The Oak pub being within walking distance. The sites location makes it ideal for visiting Chester – a fascinating walled town that features attractive timber-fronted shops and has a great Christmas market.
Northwood Hall Country Touring Park
Northwood Caravan Park comes as a bit of a surprise to most visitors to Cheshire as it is neatly tucked away in the sleepy little hillside town of Kelsall which was by-passed many years ago and sees little but local traffic now.
The site is hidden at the end of a country lane past The Oak pub that is very nicely situated for evening visits.
Once on the park you could be forgiven for not believing you are less than 15 minutes from the city of Chester with all its attractions and the quiet delights of Delamere Forest.
Northwood Hall is surrounded by trees, mostly deciduous, with great horse chestnuts giving both shade and screening. This is a popular site especially when there are events in the nearby Delamere Forest and it caters for both tents and caravans. The top camping field is a bit sloping, but the bottom one - which is not always open but near the site entrance - is flat and private.
The site is especially popular with seasonal caravanners who leave their caravans here all year around. The main pitch area is long and narrow in shape and the caravans are well spaced out. Most pitches are grass with hardstandings for awnings, but there are plans to make hardstanding main pitches for summer 2008.
The toilets and showers and neat and tidy and hot water is free for washing but showers will cost you 50p.
It's also worth noting that the site usefully offer midweek discounts for the over 55s (Monday to Friday) - give them a ring to find out more about this.
All in all this is a great site if you want a quiet base close to Chester and the attractions of central Cheshire and like to be in the middle of a good network of footpaths.
And, just to make it all the more useful, Northwood Caravan Park is open all year, so you can equally use it for summer holiday visits or to act as a base for seeing the Christmas lights in Chester.
