The Best UK Food festivals for camping

We love great tasting grub almost as much as we love camping, so to whet your appetite for all things foodie in 2014 we’ve put together our top 3 food festivals that are happening across the UK and have fantastic campsites nearby.
Whether you favour home-grown local produce or fancy sampling some fresh seafood, you can find something for everyone. So give yourself a break from campfire cooking and stop by one of these food and drink havens on your next camping break. 29th - 30th March
Located in the stunning market town of Kendal in the Lake District, the Kendal Food Festival is a delicious display of the area’s finest produce. Taking place over the weekend, visitors will be treated to an array of cooking demonstrations and sampling sessions from some of Cumbria’s biggest food heroes. This is a real family event; as well as the main food hall and North Country Food Market there will also be a Beer Bar and a Family Festival Village complete with children’s cookery classes, a live farmyard area and even street theatre performers. Adult day passes start from £8 and children’s from £3.50. Family ticket passes are also available to book in advance.
Camp at: Kendal Camping & Caravanning Club
Just on the outskirts of Kendal, 1 mile from the town centre, the hillside Kendal Camping and Caravanning Club campsite sits on the border of the Lake District National Park making it fantastic place for exploring the coasts and Pennines as well as visiting the food festival. The 50 pitch site has all the standard facilities including heated toilet and shower blocks, a well-equipped laundry room and children’s play area and Wi-Fi can be accessed for small fee. Pitches begin at £21.25 for 2 adults with electric.
The Great British Food Festival, Derbyshire
3rd – 5th May
The Great British Food Festival will be making an appearance at the beautiful Hardwick Hall in Chesterfield this May for a 3 day celebration of all things tasty. Various local companies will be running stalls each day, from coffee connoisseurs to fine wine makers, pizza throwers and baking queens, and there are a whole host of events that visitors can participant in including the Hardwick Hall Cake-Off competition and the infamous Men Vs. Food challenges. There will also be live music throughout the 3 day event and a dedicated Kids Corner to keep your little ones entertained with cooking classes and face-painting. Adult tickets are £6.50 and children under 5 go free!
Camp at: Poolsbrook Country Park Caravan Club
Poolsbrook campsite is a short 15 minute car journey from Hardwick Hall and is set amongst the 165 acre country park, providing plenty of walking trails and cycle routes for visitors. The campsite has 86 generous pitches, and was built to be extremely environmentally friendly, with a toilet block heated via a ground-pump and even a state-of-the-art heat recovery system in the shower block. Pitches start from £16.40 for 2 adults.
Dorset Seafood Festival, Weymouth
12th - 13th July
If you have a soft spot for seafood then don’t miss the 7th annual Dorset Seafood Festival taking place at Weymouth Harbour this summer. Spread across the harbourside and along the waterfront, the festival has a great mix of interactive demonstrations from a top line-up of chefs, expert wine matching sessions, filleting demonstrations, fish auctions and over 80 stalls selling a fantastic array of fresh seafood, all washed down with a glass of Pommery Champagne who sponsor the event. And the best bit? This event is entirely free for visitors!
Camp at: Bagwell Farm Touring Park
Bagwell Farm Touring Park is situated in the heart of the Dorset landscape and provides some stunning views across the Jurassic Coast and Lyme Bay. In a peaceful rural location, but still only a 15 minute drive into Weymouth, the camp site has 25 fully serviced pitches and many are suitable for motorhomes too. The modern heated toilets and showers are a welcome treat, and the site also has a mini supermarket and onsite bar & grill in case you’re still feeling a little peckish after all that seafood. Pitches start from £16.50 for 2 adults with electric and the site is open all year round.
